development life skills

Life skills make everyday living easier, more confident, and more independent. Development–Life Skills is an NDIS support that focuses on building your capacity to manage daily routines and responsibilities — step by step, at your pace.

At Empower Independence Care, we provide practical, goal-focused support to help you develop skills that support independent living, stronger routines, and greater confidence at home and in the community.

Who it’s for

This support may be right for you if you are an NDIS participant and you:

  • Want to build independence in daily living

  • Need help learning routines and staying organised

  • Want to improve communication and social skills

  • Need support with planning, decision-making, or time management

  • Want to build confidence with community access and everyday responsibilities

  • Are working toward goals like living more independently or preparing for work

How we help

Supports are tailored to your goals and may include:

  • Building daily routines (morning, evening, weekly planning)

  • Cooking basics and meal preparation skills (as appropriate)

  • Budgeting skills and basic money management routines

  • Time management and organisation (using planners, reminders, simple systems)

  • Communication skills (confidence, asking for help, social interaction)

  • Social skills and community confidence-building

  • Support to practise skills in real-life settings (home and community)

We focus on helping you learn and practise skills — not just doing things for you.

  • Practical skill-building linked to your NDIS goals

Funding & availability

Development–Life Skills is generally funded through the NDIS under Capacity Building supports, depending on your plan goals and funding categories.

We support self-managed and plan-managed participants (and can discuss NDIA-managed options). Availability depends on your suburb in Sydney and preferred support times.

FAQs

1) What are “Life Skills” under the NDIS?
Life skills supports help you develop capacity for everyday living — routines, planning, communication, home tasks, and confidence to manage daily responsibilities.

2) Is this support only for people who live alone?
No. It supports anyone wanting to build independence — whether you live with family, in shared living, or independently.

3) What kinds of skills can we work on?
Skills may include routines, cooking basics, budgeting, organisation, communication, time management, and community confidence — depending on your goals.

4) Will you do tasks for me or teach me?
We focus on coaching and support to help you learn and practise skills. Where needed, we assist — but the goal is to build your independence.

Yes. Many life skills supports are delivered at home so you can practise skills in your real routine.

6) How do I know if my plan covers this service?
If your plan includes capacity building supports and goals related to independence, routines, or skill development, you may be eligible. We can help you check what to look for.

7) How do I get started?
